Entrance | "MarienTaler"
We charge the so-called MarienTaler for visits to the church. The MarienTaler is used for the care and preservation of the church and its art treasures.
The fee is €4.00 (reduced €2.00) and can be paid on site in cash or by card. For groups of 11 or more people, the fee is €3.00. Children and young people, as well as members of the community, are admitted free of charge. The discount applies to students, recipients of social benefits and people with disabilities.
The MarienTaler is not charged for your personal prayer and devotions or for attending public devotions and church services. St Marien is available for prayer and worship during opening hours.

-
Is the church barrier-free?
With the exception of the high choir, the entire church is barrier-free. If you need help on site, please let our team know. We will be happy to help you.
Church tours and concerts are therefore barrier-free. A separate hearing aid system (induction system) is available in the first ten rows in the nave. The towers and the vault are not barrier-free.
-
Can I take food and drink inside?
No. We ask you to leave food and drinks outside.
-
Are pets allowed?
No, important animals such as assistance dogs are an exception. Please speak to us about this at the entrance.
-
Are there toilets/restrooms on site?
Toilets/restrooms are not available during church opening hours. We are happy to refer you to the public toilet opposite the Marienwerkhaus.
-
Am I allowed to take photos and videos?
Of course. You are welcome to take photos and videos for your own private use. A separate photo authorisation is not required.
Photographing, filming or recording audio during church services, devotions or concerts is not permitted.
Drones may not be flown in or around the nave of the church; special authorisation is required for this.
If you want to upload pictures to a social media platform (e.g. Instagram, Facebook or GoogleMaps) afterwards, please make sure that you do not have any people in your pictures without their consent.
-
Who do I contact if I want to take professional photos and videos for commercial purposes?
Please send an email to info@st-marien-luebeck.de.

Why do I have to pay to go to church?
We did not take the decision to charge our visitors a maintenance fee lightly. However, maintaining such a special building costs over €2,000 per day. With your contribution, you are directly supporting the future of this church.
On many occasions, no MarienTaler is charged.
You can find more information further up on this page in the section "Entrance | MarienTaler".
